The Luxembourg Government has placed the acceleration of renewable energy at the heart of its climate and energy agenda, prioritizing solar energy development. Aligning with this direction, members of DP International recently took part in a site visit to SolarCells Luxembourg, a local company engaged in the production of photovoltaic panels. The visit was part of a joint initiative led by Comité Zentrum, Jonk Demokraten Stad, DP Stad, and FCCD.
Exploring Local Solutions to the Energy Transition
The visit included a guided tour of the SolarCells facility, providing insight into the technical and structural aspects of local solar panel production. Particular attention was given to the processes that distinguish Luxembourgish photovoltaic panels from lower-cost international alternatives, including differences in production standards, materials, and quality assurance.
Some of the presented measures in place to ensure durability and performance include the use of tempered glass for protection against hail or storms, and the systematic testing of each panel for consistent energy output and to ensure long-term reliability.
The visit also offered a chance to reflect on how the European Union might play a greater role in supporting the production and adoption of solar panels manufactured within Europe.
