What is the trend in meningococcal infections in Luxembourg?

In France, more people have been infected with meningococcal disease since the pandemic. DP MPs André Bauler and Gilles Baum asked the Minister of Health how infections have developed in Luxembourg, how many people have been vaccinated and whether the vaccination rate is high enough to protect citizens' health.

« À en croire la presse française, les cas de méningite ont été en hausse ces dernières années, en particulier entre 2022 et 2023. Ainsi, il y a deux ans à peine, quelque 560 cas d’infections invasives à méningocoques auraient été détectés ou déclarés, ce qui correspondrait à une hausse de plus de 70% par rapport à l’an précédent. Cette infection, qui est potentiellement mortelle, aurait également connu une croissance tangible en 2024, si bien que l’on parle « d’un rebond sans précédent.

Dans ce contexte, nous aimerions poser les questions suivantes à Madame la Ministre de la Santé et de la Sécurité sociale :

  • Quelle a été l’évolution du nombre de méningites depuis l’an 2020 au Luxembourg ? L’évolution a-t-elle été analogue à celle de la France ?
  • Que peut-on dire sur la population de patients touchés par cette maladie grave en distinguant selon les catégories d’âge ?
  • Combien de patients n’ont pas survécu à cette infection ?
  • Depuis 2020, combien de personnes, réparties par groupe d’âge et par groupe à risque, ont reçu la vaccination contre les méningocoques de type B et ACWY ?
  • Le taux de vaccination atteint-il un niveau suffisant pour assurer une protection adéquate de la population résidente ? »

Should the LNS and private laboratories work closer together on biopsies?

The LNS, which has a monopoly in this area, has taken a number of measures to counteract the long waiting times for the evaluation of biopsies.

No more reimbursement for dermatoscopic photos?

As part of a dermatologist’s examination, photos can be taken of suspicious skin areas where there is a risk of skin cancer developing. DP MP Gusty Graas has now been informed that these photos will no longer be reimbursed by health insurance. In a parliamentary question to the Minister of Health, the liberal politician would like to know, among other things, why this decision was made and how many patients have been reimbursed for such photos taken by dermatologists in the last five years.
