How safe is swimming in open waters in Luxembourg?

With the arrival of summer comes the season of excursions to the lakes. Unfortunately, with each swimming season, there is also the news regarding accidents in- and outside of the water. How safe are the local lakes for the guests? Are there enough safety guards and pool attendents in the country? How are people being protected in and around the local waters? Our MPs Claude Lamberty and Max Hahn have asked the respective ministries.

« Mam Summer a mat der grousser Vakanz kënnt och d’Saison vun den Ausflich un d’Mier oder bei d’Séien ëmmer méi no. De Weekend vum 18ten a 19ten Juni war den Undrang an de Lëtzebuerger Piscinnen a bei de Séien därmossen grouss, datt d’Problematiken ronderëm d’Sécherheet vum Schwëmmer an de Manktem un Infrastrukturen zeréck an de Fokus geréckelt sinn.

Wat d’Infrastrukturen ugeet, hat d’FLNS – d’Fédération Luxembourgeoise de Natation et de Sauvetage schonn d’lescht Joer op e grousse Manktem vu Piscinnen zu Lëtzebuerg opmierksam gemaach. Dëst wier ze bedaueren, apaart well all Joer an Europa eng 27.000 Mënsche géifen erdrénken.

Weiderhin ass an der Press och schonn ëfters op de Manktem vu Schwammmeeschter an de néidegen Infrastrukturen an de Gemengen opmierksam gemaach ginn.

An deem Kader wollte mir dem Här Minister fir bannenzeg Sécherheet, dem Här Sportminister an der Madamm Inneministesch folgend Froe stellen:

  • Wéi vill Accidenter gouf et an de leschte 5 Joer bannent a ronderëm designéiert Schwammgewässer uechtert d’Land?
  • Wéi vill brevetéiert Schwammmeeschter ginn et aktuell zu Lëtzebuerg?
  • Sinn och Schwammmeeschter ronderëm d’Séien zu Lëtzebuerg aktiv?
  • Wéi vill Mënschen hunn zu Lëtzebuerg de Brevet vum Rettungsschwëmmer? »

Answer

Den Inneministère huet keng Donnéeën iwwer brevetéiert Schwammmeeschteren zu Lëtzebuerg, mee just iwwert d’Waasserrettungsasätz (kuerz: WRET) vum CGDIS op de grousse Gewässer am Land.

Second classroom support staff and A-EBS in cycle 1 of primary education

To ensure more effective pedagogical differentiation from the start of schooling, the coalition agreement foresees the gradual introduction of a second classroom support worker in cycle 1. This second staff member could also play a key role in the rollout of Project Alpha, especially in preparing children for literacy in German or French. Furthermore, assistants for pupils with special educational needs (A-EBS) are set to ease the workload of specialised teachers. Our MPs Gilles Baum and Barbara Agostino have submitted a parliamentary question to the Minister to clarify the implementation timeline and progress of these initiatives.

No access to biological results in the LëtzHBM study?

As part of the LNS study ‘LëtzHBM’, biological and environmental samples are collected to determine the presence of chemical substances in private households. The results of the biological samples, unlike the environmental samples, are not systematically communicated to the participants.
DP MP Dr Gérard Schockmel has asked the Minister of Health why these results are not communicated and whether this is compatible with data protection regulations.
