Luxembourg faces major challenges: A collective effort is essential

At the closing press conference of the 2024/2025 parliamentary session, the Democratic Party parliamentary group addressed the many challenges and reforms awaiting our country.

Gilles Baum, President of the DP group, emphasized the long-standing DP demand for individualized taxation, which is now being set in motion. This major reform will ease the financial burden on households and marks a significant step forward in social policy. It aims to create a fairer and more modern tax system that reflects the diversity of our society and treats all life models equally. The DP is committed to ensuring that families with children benefit fully from this reform.

Housing remains one of Luxembourg’s most pressing social and political challenges. The DP parliamentary group supports a reform of both the vacancy tax and the property tax, while carefully considering the potential impact on the middle class and average-income households.

Luxembourg needs a resilient and above all innovative economy. The country’s digital transformation is on a promising path, as it reinforces key cross-cutting competencies in the financial sector and in cybersecurity. Luxembourg also intends to bring its expertise in space, satellite technology, and cybersecurity to bear in both national and international defense efforts—developments that will, in turn, positively impact the economy.

The DP firmly believes that a sustainable and robust economy requires a responsible energy policy. DP deputies support initiatives to ensure affordable energy supply. For this reason, they back legislation to subsidize grid fees, helping to potentially reduce energy prices as early as next year.

Education reform is essential to shaping the future. The DP parliamentary group supports bold and ambitious reforms in education that aim to provide fair opportunities for all children. The DP is fully behind efforts to tackle inequality in the school system and to promote success for every student. Our schools must remain spaces of learning, dialogue, and creative development. Equal starting conditions and equal opportunities for every child are part of our DNA.

The DP also stands firmly for a balanced social dialogue in Luxembourg. Social peace is one of the country’s greatest assets for both economic development and cohesive living.

To preserve and strengthen prosperity and quality of life in Luxembourg, the DP parliamentary group calls on all stakeholders to work together, because the choices we make today define ourtomorrow.
