New Ethical Framework for Safer Sport

The DP had already called for this in its 2023 election program:

“Safeguarding in Sports”
The DP will create an independent body whose main task will be to ensure well-being and integrity in sport, in parcular to prevent harassment and abuse, and to support victims. In addition, in close cooperation with public and private institutions, it should also integrate the fight
against manipulation and for the teaching of ethical values in sport.

MP Mandy Minella also regularly raises this issue in Parliament and, in June 2025, submitted a motion calling for an ethical charter.

The current case surrounding the women’s national football team shows that action is needed. For this reason, the DP MP followed up once again this Wednesday with a parliamentary question to the Minister of Sport, asking about the status of the charter and the announced national action plan on safeguarding.

On Thursday evening, the Minister for Gender Equality and Diversity, Yuriko Backes, together with the Minister of Sport, the President of the COSL and the Director of ALAD, among others, presented the ethical charter and also announced the creation of a national ethics commission for sport.

In her speech, the minister emphasized that, especially in the current context, it is important to send clear signals in all areas of society in favor of equality, acceptance, tolerance and respect. These values must be strengthened collectively and sustainably anchored in sport. This also includes the fight against doping and against the manipulation of competitions.
