“Your commitment deserves the deepest respect.”

On Tuesday, 28 April 2026, around 80 members gathered at the Civic and Cultural Centre in Mondorf-les-Bains for the DP District Congress for the East.

In her speech, District President Claire Sertznig highlighted the importance of liberal and, above all, democratic politics, built on values such as freedom, respect and responsibility. Politics shouldn’t exploit people’s fears.

In times like these, people often tend to think that they alone cannot make a difference. But that is precisely not the case. Every individual contribution from everyone present matters. Every voice, every idea and every discussion helps ensure that our values are put into practice.

The President said that, amid major international crises demanding so much attention, we shouldn’t lose sight of what may seem small at first glance. We must talk about our many good ideas, inform people and continue to live by our motto of being “close to you”. The political commitment of those who work on the ground day after day, alongside their jobs and families, helping to find solutions, deserved the deepest respect.

In their respective speeches, Minister of the Economy Lex Delles, Party President Carole Hartmann and Parliamentary Group Leader Gilles Baum spoke about the major challenges facing the country. Among other things, Luxembourg should do everything possible in the field of energy to become more resilient. The importance of social dialogue was underlined, and on housing, the government was pulling every lever available.
