Photovoltaic installations on large parking lots?

In a recent press article, the Minister of Energy raised the enormous energy potential that the some 100 hectares of parking areas in Luxembourg would represent if they were covered with structures and solar panels were installed on top. This is why the deputy of the DP Max Hahn wanted to know from the minister how he intends to mobilize this potential.

– Ginn et scho Pläng fir nei Subside fir d’Geschäfter z’incitéiere fir a) hir Parkfläch z’iwwerdecken a b) Photovoltaikanlagen drop z’installéieren ?

Answer

In order to mobilize the great potential of PV facilities on parking lots, the government has so far mainly gone the way of tendering, where effectively three projects have already been awarded the contract. In addition, smaller carports are already eligible for the feed-in rates. As far as the solar cadastre is concerned, it is being analysed whether it would not be possible to not limit it only to buildings, but also to include other areas. Meanwhile, the potential for PV plants floating on artificial waters would be rather small in Luxembourg.
