A public institution for blood donations?

DP MPs Corinne Cahen and Gérard Schockmel have put questions to the Minister of Health about the announced public institution for blood donations. The Liberal MPs asked, among other things, whether it would not make more sense to pay all the Red Cross' fees for the blood donation service instead of setting up a public institution? And what will happen to the blood donation room planned for the new Red Cross headquarters in Howald if the Red Cross no longer takes over the blood donation service?

Question

„An der Froestonn vum 13. November an der Chamber huet d’Santésministesch gesot, dass d’Bluttspend an Zukunft soll vun engem Etablissement public iwwerholl ginn. Deemno géing d’Croix-Rouge déi Aufgab ofgeholl kréien.

An deem Kader wollte mir der Madamm Ministesch fir Gesondheet a Sozialversécherung follgend Froe stellen:

  • Ass d’Madamm Ministesch net och der Meenung, dass d’Regierung éischter misst an d’Richtung goen, all d’Fraisen ze couvréieren, déi bei der Bluttspend ufalen, an domat ze garantéieren, dass d’Croix-Rouge net misst op Spenden zeréckgräife fir dee Service um Bierger?
  • Ass d’Ministesch net och der Meenung, dass vill Bluttspender riskéieren, net méi spenden ze goen, wann net méi d’Croix-Rouge sech dorëms këmmert? Bluttspend ass eng Spend. Mengt d’Ministesch, dass en Etablissement public grad esou vill Leit mobiliséiert kréich?
  • Huet d’Ministesch scho mam Lëtzebuerger Roude Kräiz geschwat, wat ass hier Meenung dozou, dass an Zukunft d’Bluttspend vun engem Etablissement public soll gemaach ginn.“

In Belgium and France, the free sale of anti-cold medicines containing pseudoephedrine was recently banned. Due to potential health risks, these medicines are now only available on prescription.

DP MPs Dr Gérard Schockmel and Gilles Baum have asked the Minister of Health what she thinks of this ban in our neighbouring countries, whether she thinks such a ban would also make sense in Luxembourg and whether doctors and patients should be made more aware of the risks of medicines containing pseudoephedrine.
