70 years of the DP – because it is about tomorrow.
With an approval rate of 95,65 percent, the National Congress of the Democratic Party has elected Carole Hartmann (37) as its new President. Carole Hartmann succeeds Lex Delles, who held the position for three years.
Hartmann, a lawyer, is deputy mayor of Echternach. She is the fourth woman to head the DP. Her previous role as secretary-general will be taken over by Eric Thill.
The party leadership and committees elected by the Congress are as follows:
President: Carole Hartmann; First Vice-President: Yuriko Backes; Vice-Presidents: Corinne Cahen and Amela Skenderović; Secretary-general: Eric Thill; Deputy Secretary-general: Claude Lamberty; Treasurer: Myriam Feyder.
Comité directeur: Michael Agostini, Jeffrey Drui, Géraldine Welkenbach, Marc Schuman (Southern District); Robert L. Philippart, Patrick Michels, Christos Floros, Nicolas Kandel (Central District); Angèle Mersch, Michel Goethals, Paula Fontoura de Morais, Denny Kanisza (Northern District); Ben Ries, Martine Birkel, Carmen Friden, Hugo Da Costa (Eastern District).
In her inaugural speech in Limpertsberg, the new party leader made a clear commitment to the continuity of the DP’s social-liberal, solution-oriented and forward-looking approach. Hartmann emphasised the political and programmatic strength of the party – exactly 70 years after its foundation.
The DP will continue to pursue a clearly pro-European, progressive and sustainable policy in dialogue with the social partners, as it did during the era of Gaston Thorn.
The DP leader also stressed the need for socio-political reforms to strengthen the cohesion of the country in its diversity and to meet the needs of all population groups.
As Luxembourg’s centrist party, the DP also has a responsibility to guarantee democratic freedoms and equal opportunities for all people in the country – not least to secure the future of the next generations, because it is about tomorrow, said Carole Hartmann.
