Democratic Values at the Heart of the National Congress

The Democratic Party takes a positive view of the recent tripartite negotiations. At the party’s national congress in Bertrange, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Xavier Bettel welcomed the swift and targeted agreement reached by the parties involved. In the current context, he said, it was essential not to lose time, in the interest of the country as a whole.

Xavier Bettel welcomed the measures adopted, which are aimed in particular at supporting the households most exposed to current pressures. The government and the social partners succeeded in striking a balance between social needs and the need to strengthen the economy. In this context, Xavier Bettel firmly rejected any attempt to fuel resentment between different groups of the population. He also stressed that the best solutions for Luxembourg have always been found with the DP as part of the government.

In the party’s view, the negotiated agreement clearly bears the DP’s hallmark: it strengthens purchasing power, avoids placing additional burdens on businesses and continues to advance the development of a sustainable energy transition.

Defending Luxembourg’s Values

In her speech, party president Carole Hartmann strongly emphasised the need, in the current period, to protect and strengthen the democratic values of Luxembourg and Europe. Freedom of opinion and of the press, tolerance, the rule of law and social responsibility are essential foundations of our society and must be defended with determination. More than ever, politics must provide citizens with a secure framework in which everyone can thrive.

The party president said she was convinced that Luxembourg’s successful model can only function in a free, democratic and open society. The DP stands ready to protect and preserve this freedom in all its forms: Democratic freedoms cannot be taken for granted. They require our attention and our commitment. This is a shared responsibility, for today and for future generations.

Carole Hartmann also stressed that democracy must not be left to those who seek to stoke fear. In Luxembourg, what unites citizens is far stronger than what divides them, the DP president emphasised.

A Modernised Visual Identity

After more than fifteen years, the DP also presented at its congress a modernised visual identity that is currently being developed. In order to communicate the party’s messages even more clearly in the future, a bespoke typeface named Demokratesch has been created. It reflects the specific characteristics of written Luxembourgish and will soon be used across the party’s entire communication. While the dot featured in the logo will in future be used in a more prominent and dynamic way, blue remains the party’s main colour.

National Congress in Bertrange

On Sunday morning, 7 June 2026, around 350 DP members gathered at the Centre Atert in Bertrange for the party’s annual national congress. The newly elected members of the Comité Directeur were also appointed.
