Yuriko Backes becomes Luxembourg’s first ever female Minister of Finance

Following the unanimous decision of the DP board, Prime Minister Xavier Bettel will propose to the Grand Duke Yuriko Backes as the new Minister of Finance.

Yuriko Backes takes over the succession of Pierre Gramegna and becomes the first woman in this position in Luxembourg.

The experienced diplomat has already demonstrated her qualities and expertise in many places: she has been a diplomatic adviser to two prime ministers and for four years head of the Luxembourg Representation of the European Commission in Luxembourg. In 2020, she started her position as Marshal of the Grand Ducal Court.

Yuriko Backes is 50 years old and is the mother of two children.

We warmly welcome Yuriko to the DP family!
